Sometimes it’s tempting to view the valley as small isolated pockets of life– downtown Phoenix, Uptown Phoenix, Sunnyslope, Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, etc. etc. And while all cities building density from sprawl might have to contend with that, a little intention towards connection never hurt!
So this month, our featured non-profit is a bit ‘next door’– it’s the Tempe Community Action Agency. TCAA provides services to alleviate poverty, hunger and homelessness with a mission of improving the quality of life for the under-served. Specific programs include Tempe and Scottsdale Senior Centers, the Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program, Shower Power mobile shower unit, HealthStart Prenatal services, an emergency food pantry, workforce development/life skills training, the Escalante Community Garden, Senior Services, and First Things First food distribution for young children. Amazing, right? And many of these services happen 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
There’s an especially strong and an especially acute need for this suite of support this time of year, so please consider joining us on Third Friday (switched from 4th Friday for just this month!) to eat some great pie for a great cause.
A Share of the Pie: Charity Pie Night!
(THIRD!) Friday, November 21st, 2014 from 7pm-9pm
A $5 donation gets you any slice of a Vonceil’s Pies creation! A $10 donation or $25 purchase at the shop gets you as many in-house tastings as you’d like! The delectables (made by our favorite sister/helper Karen Olson) have previously included such treats as Banana Peanut Butter Cream and Strawberry Jalapeno. Bring your own plate or pick up a handmade one on the spot to keep things eco-conscious!
All donations, and 10% of all sales during the event, will be donated to: Tempe Community Action Agency
