The harsh reality of this month’s featured non-profit is exemplified in the ‘ESCAPE NOW’ banner splashed across the top of the Eve’s Place website.
At first, it looks like one of those attention-grabbing, pop-up ads– but then to really look at it, and really, really read it….you feel the specter of a looming, suspicious, abusive partner, and the panicked fear of the abused clicking through the internet searching for help. And the person seeking help?
It could be any of one in four residents.
THE MISSION OF EVE’S PLACE IS TO PROVIDE SAFETY, EMPOWERMENT AND COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAMS FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC ABUSE.
Eve’s Place has been doing just that for over ten years. October’s exhibiting artist at Practical Art, John Ryszka II, has been working to help support Eve’s Place, and as a feature piece in his show “Relics”, he has created a work specifically for the cause– “Eve’s Choice”. We are happy to partner with him in his support of this sadly much-needed organization by raising funds for Eve’s Place during this Friday’s Charity Pie Night at Practical Art. The details?
A Share of the Pie: Charity Pie Night!
Friday, October 24th, 2014 from 7pm-9pm
A $5 donation gets you any slice of a Vonceil’s Pies creation! A $10 donation or $25 purchase at the shop gets you as many in-house tastings as you’d like! The delectables (made by our favorite sister/helper Karen Olson) have previously included such treats as Banana Peanut Butter Cream and Strawberry Jalapeno. Bring your own plate or pick up a handmade one on the spot to keep things eco-conscious! All donations, and 10% of all sales during the event, will be donated to: Eve’s Place
