Have you been caught at the park without your collar? Framed for chewing and/or clawing the toilet paper? You just might need the Animal Defense League of Arizona.
While our feature non-profit this month may not be able to help your animal when they’re caught with that incriminating baggie of catnip, the ADLA has, for two decades, worked towards protections on behalf of companion animals, wildlife, animals in laboratories, animals in entertainment, and farm animals. The current strength of their program allows them to conduct upwards of 10,000 TNRs (trap-neuter-releases) a year, as well as have successful lobbying initiatives against the sales of dogs to laboratories, cockfighting, and other inhumane animal management practices.
If you want to support this fantastic organization, you can volunteer here, or learn more about their efforts and help us raise funds for ’em at our Charity Pie Night this Friday, August 22nd, from 7-9pm. A $10 donation or $25 purchase at the shop gets you unlimited in-house tastings of pie delectables (made by our favorite sister/helper Karen Olson). If you’re stuffed from dinner, a $5 donation gets you a single slice of heaven, often otherwise described as Banana Peanut Butter Cream Pie, Strawberry Jalapeno, Mexican Chocolate, etc. Bring your own plate or pick up a handmade one on the spot to keep things eco-conscious! All donations, and 10% of all sales from the day, will be donated to ADLA.
