The Photographs of Brad Armstrong

Brad Armstrong’s photographic series, “Eileen,” is titled in honor of his late mother. It is a series of luminous Southwestern landscapes showcasing all of the color, drama, serenity, and spaciousness that once captivated the pioneers of the Westward expansion.

Armstrong talks about the process: “The photographs in the show grow out of struggles in the last two years, while I was dealing with my mother’s illness and eventual passing. With the help of a few friends, I concentrated on beautiful opportunities during a period of uncertainty and deep personal challenge. In retrospect, they were my way of getting through this time.”

After leaving his native New York, Armstrong’s award-winning photography career began in 1989 as a photojournalist in Scottsdale, Arizona. Since that time, he has worked as Director of Photography for The East Valley Tribune, exhibited his fine art photography, taught as a visiting professor for ASU, and developed his career as a commercial photographer.

His numerous accolades include a 2008 Pulitzer prize for leading a team of photographers and videographers on the award winning news and web piece “Reasonable Doubt,” as well as two Arizona Picture of the Years Awards, and one Best of the West. His work has been published in newspapers and magazines, exhibited in galleries, featured in an HBO documentary, and is currently held in the National Portrait Gallery and The Smithsonian Institution.

We are honored to exhibit his most recent series, and to support a cause near and dear to him: a portion of the proceeds of this exhibition will be donated to ALS research at The Barrow Neurological Foundation, the support organization for the Barrow Neurological Institute.

Friday’s Charity Pie Night donations will also go to benefit The Barrow Neurological Foundation.  How does pie night work? Well, a $5 donation gets you any slice of a Vonceil’s Pies creation! A $10 donation or $25 purchase at the shop gets you as many in-house tastings as you’d like! The delectables (made by our favorite sister/helper Karen Olson of Vonceil’s Pies) have previously included Hipster Apple, Pear Cardamom, Banana Peanut Butter Cream, and Strawberry Jalapeno. Bring your own plate or pick up a handmade one on the spot to keep things eco-conscious! Great pies for a great cause!
